Housing the Dispossessed
Each year, the theme for World Home Economics Day (WHED) is set to highlight a pertinent issue. This year’s theme is ‘Housing the Dispossesed’.
“Millions of people worldwide are homeless and lack access to adequate housing. Reasons for homelessness are myriad, ranging from man-made to natural disasters. A person without housing is highly at risk of suffering from poverty, hunger, poor health, lack of access to education, clean water and sanitation. By addressing these challenges and “making home” for those dispossessed, Home Economics can contribute to make improvements in several SDG areas.
The WHED theme (in) 2020 is aligned to the priority theme of the 2020 UN Commission on Social Development.”
